What’s your favorite color? I have never been able to give a definitive answer to that. For a long time it was green, but I wasn’t sure which shade. I wasn’t even certain if it really was my favorite color.
Nowadays the answer I give is teal or cyan. It can look like green, but also like blue, depending on the lighting and the other colors surrounding it. I also like yellow because it goes really well with teal. I also like the striking contrast of white on black and viceversa, as well as brownish, earthy tones.
But I have never liked red, perhaps because that color is everywhere. Unlike teal, every culture has a word for it. It’s the color that tells you not to do things, the color of danger, the color of blood, of passion, love, violence, energy. It is a very powerful color, and when it’s used everywhere its power gets diluted.
I have now realized that red is a beautiful and striking color if used right. If it’s used only when it’s absolutely needed and not absolutely everywhere.
And probably that is true for all colors, at least for me. They are my favorites when they are used in the right amounts. Color is a subjective matter, even for individuals.
